Colombia Coastal Gems Part II
Baranquilla and a cheeky return to Cartagena.
01/2024
Baranquilla: One of the most slept on regions of Colombia. The food scene outshines due to Baranquilla's history as a major immigration hub dating back to 1890. Lebanese, Palestinians, Italians, Germans and many others immigrated in mass through WWII. Baranquilla's position near the Magdalena River (Colombia's most important river system) made it an ideal port town to ship goods throughout the country. The result? The food scene is probably the best in all of Colombia. Costeño food is already my favorite (I could live on patacones, fish and coconut rice). However, this is the only place you can get authentic Lebanese food because families have been passing down recipes for generations. Spectacular.
Cartagena: return to Cartagena for a cheeky day trip. Will forever enjoy the colors of the walled city, the historical significance and stories of pirates and Bolivian silver, distinct doors, sunsets, energy and of course Costeños!
